This tribal necklace is made from round cut natural African turquoise, highlighted with Indian silver beads, an antique Naga bone pendant and Kachin antique bone beads. The effect is unique and stunning. Finished with sterling silver findings and hook clasp.
Designed to be unisex, this necklace will look great on either men or women.
- The Naga pendant is a genuine antique bead, actually spacer bead used to separate necklace or belt strands. It was collected by my father on his travels through India in the 1980’s. The bone is most likely buffalo, cow, or mithun, a type of cattle native to the Naga foothills. The two antique bone beads are Kachin, from Burma.
- What is African turquoise? It’s actually the trade name for a type of jasper that is mined only in Africa. The stone is green blue in colour and is rich with inclusions of crystal quartz, iron and copper deposits in a matrix of black and brown veins, making this stone a beautiful substitute for the much more expensive traditional turquoise. Because of its inclusions, and with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, African turquoise is a much harder stone than turquoise, which makes it great for jewellery of all types.
- Each Naga bead is absolutely unique, so please expect some variation in the final look when ordering.
